How Fees Are Calculated — Detailed Examples

1) Example: Success Fee with a 3% Hurdle

Parameters: initial investment — €10,000, annual portfolio return — 12%, hurdle rate — 3%, performance fee — 15%.

Calculation steps:

  1. Gross profit: 10,000 × 0.12 = 1,200.
  2. Hurdle amount: 10,000 × 0.03 = 300.
  3. Profit above hurdle = 1,200 − 300 = 900.
  4. Performance fee = 900 × 0.15 = 135.

Total: the manager earns a €135 success fee; the client receives a net profit before taxes and other charges of 1,200 − 135 = €1,065.

2) Example: Success Fee with a 4% Hurdle

Parameters: initial investment — €1,000, current balance — €1,500, total profit — €500, withdrawal amount — €500, hurdle rate — 4%, performance fee — 20%.

Calculation steps:

  1. Gross profit: 1,500 − 1,000 = €500.
  2. Hurdle amount: 1,000 × 0.04 = €40.
  3. Profit above hurdle: 500 − 40 = €460.
  4. Share of profit above hurdle in total balance: 460 / 1,500 ≈ 30.67%.
  5. Proportion of withdrawal attributable to profit above hurdle: 500 × 30.67% ≈ €153.33 — this amount is subject to the performance fee.
  6. Success fee = 20% of €153.33 = €30.67.

Result:

  • Withheld success fee: €30.67.
  • Net withdrawal to the client: 500 − 30.67 = €469.33.
  • Remaining account balance: 1,500 − 500 = €1,000.

Total: the manager receives a €30.67 success fee; the client receives a payout of €469.33, with a remaining account balance of €1,000.

3) Example: Success Fee Over Several Years

Parameters: initial investment — €10,000, performance fee rate — 20%. Portfolio results over three years: Year 1 +€1,500, Year 2 −€600, Year 3 +€1,200. At the end of Year 3, the client closes the account and withdraws all funds. Our approach applies the fee only to the net cumulative profit over the entire investment period.

Calculation steps:

  1. After Year 1: profit = +€1,500, balance = €11,500.
  2. After Year 2: loss = −€600, balance = €10,900. Net cumulative profit = €10,900 − €10,000 = €900.
  3. After Year 3: profit = +€1,200, balance = €12,100. Net cumulative profit = €12,100 − €10,000 = €2,100.
  4. Performance fee = 20% × 2,100 = €420.
  5. Total payout: €12,100 − €420 = €11,680.

Total: the manager earns a €420 success fee over the full investment period; the client receives a final payout of €11,680.

Conclusion: the fee is charged only on net cumulative profits over the entire period, with interim losses fully accounted for and reducing the fee base.

The success fee is applied only at the time of withdrawal by the client. Until then, the client incurs no costs or charges.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

In which currency is the account maintained, and is conversion available?

We operate on the world’s largest and most liquid market — the U.S. equity market — where all settlements are conducted in U.S. dollars. Accordingly, all operations — trading, performance measurement, and fee calculation — are carried out in USD.

What is a success fee?

A success fee, or performance-based fee, is compensation paid to the management company or investment manager only if the client’s investments generate a positive return.

Can the tariff plan be changed after onboarding?

Yes, it is possible to switch to a different plan. In such cases, proportional fee adjustments apply, and the success fee may be recalculated if necessary.

How frequently are trades executed, and does this affect the account balance?

We adhere to our proprietary investment strategy, which is based on selective allocation and a long-term perspective. Trading activity is moderate, with relatively few transactions — meaning trading commissions remain minimal and have no material impact on the overall account balance.
